Is Mines Rigged? The Payout Table Is Pure Combinatorics
Mines is not rigged, and you can check that yourself without trusting anyone: every payout in the game is the exact inverse of a combinatorial probability, multiplied by 0.99. If the number the game offers you matches the number the maths produces, the house edge is 1% and nothing has been tilted.
payout = 0.99 / [ C(25 - m, k) / C(25, k) ] · Source: Derived: every published payout is 0.99 divided by the exact combinatorial probability · Last verified 11 Sep 2026The formula the whole game runs on
A 25-tile board with m mines leaves 25 minus m safe tiles. The chance of revealing k safe tiles in a row is the number of safe combinations divided by the number of all combinations:
P(survive k) = C(25 - m, k) / C(25, k)
A fair payout would be 1 divided by that probability. The published payout is 0.99 divided by it. That 0.99 is the entire house edge, applied once, identically at every depth.
The full table, three mines
| Safe tiles revealed | Chance of getting there | Payout | Roughly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 88.0000% | 1.1250x | 9 in 10 |
| 2 | 77.0000% | 1.2857x | 3 in 4 |
| 3 | 66.9565% | 1.4786x | 2 in 3 |
| 5 | 49.5652% | 1.9974x | 1 in 2 |
| 10 | 19.7826% | 5.0044x | 1 in 5 |
| 15 | 5.2174% | 18.9750x | 1 in 19 |
| 20 | 0.4348% | 227.7000x | 1 in 230 |
| 22 (full clear) | 0.0435% | 2,277.0000x | 1 in 2,300 |
Multiply any payout by its probability and the answer is 0.99 every time. That invariance is the test: a rigged table would fail it somewhere.
What changes when you change the mine count
| Mines | Reveal 3 | Reveal 10 | Deepest single reveal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.1250x at 88.0% | 1.6500x at 60.0% | 24 tiles, 24.7500x at 4.00% |
| 3 | 1.4786x at 66.96% | 5.0044x at 19.78% | 22 tiles, 2,277x at 0.0435% |
| 5 | 1.9974x at 49.57% | 17.5154x at 5.65% | 20 tiles, 52,598.70x at 0.0019% |
More mines means larger payouts and smaller chances, in exact proportion. The return never moves off 99%. Choosing a mine count is choosing variance, not value.
So what would rigging actually look like?
It would look like a payout that does not match the formula. That is the only thing worth checking, and it is checkable in seconds with a calculator. Claims that a site “tightens” Mines after a win describe something the payout table would immediately expose, because the offered multiplier is visible before you commit to each tile.
Quick answers
Is Mines rigged? Not in the genuine build. Every payout equals 0.99 divided by the exact combinatorial chance of reaching that depth.
What is the best number of mines in Mines? None of them return more than 99%. More mines raises both the payout and the risk in exact proportion.
What are the odds of clearing the whole board with 3 mines? 1 in 2,300, and the game pays 2,277x for it.

payout = (100 - house edge) / win chanceDice and Limbo payouts follow the published identity: multiplier equals 99 divided by the win chance in percent for a 99% RTP build. Expected value is therefore the same at every win chance, which is what fixes the house edge at 1%.
